The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Follows Mixed Reception

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct direction.

Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to address community desires.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news mirrors a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire text from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to persist.”

With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s the game playtest was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a sharper vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its promise to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. Following some time of talks, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting him in the coming days. We are all excited to continue witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

The President

Experience of the Incoming Leader

The appointee presently holds the position of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Game Information and Concept

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. At the time, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Take on the rivals with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or go big, put it on the line, and trust your squad can secure victory? The option is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can expect additional details as production advances.
